Brandon Norallis is a college professor and world-renowned scientist, famous for his advancements in the understanding of the magical phenomenon known as the Aether. His mathematical discoveries have led to an explosion of technological innovation, and he has spent the last decade of his middle-aged life basking in the rewards of society.

And yet, when the police deliver a stolen Aether crystal to his lab for analysis, he comes to several troubling conclusions. The crystal has been modified in ways that shouldn’t be possible. Someone out there must have incredibly advanced technology, one that could be incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands. His suspicions are confirmed when his son is severely wounded by a mysterious figure demanding to know the location of the crystal.

The figure, some call the Phantom Scythe, demonstrates incredible abilities beyond Brandon’s comprehension. In a frightening encounter, he is given a difficult choice. Return the modified crystal to its rightful owner, or witness the death of his son.
